Summer Camp at Safari Run

Summer is officially over and Jacob started first grade on Tuesday (8/21).  Maddie starts preschool next week!  I really can't believe how quickly this Summer flew by.

For 6 weeks this Summer, Jacob and Maddie attended camp at Safari Run.  I've mentioned this place before since both Jacob and Maddie have had birthday parties there!  I decided to have them do Summer camp there since they could both attend (they have a "Little Cubs" program for 3-4 year olds so Maddie could go to!)  Her camp was shorter - only M/W/F from 9-12 and I tell you, that girl wanted to go everyday and didn't want to leave!  She has turned into one seriously outgoing little woman.

I could NOT have been more pleased with the whole program.  Each week they would send out a calendar (for each program) that detailed what they were doing every hour of the day, what the day's "theme" would be for dress up, what they were eating, who was coming to do a presentation, and more!  THEN, at the end of every week, they'd send us pictures!  Seriously, all camps should be run this well.

I also love that they focus on fitness and nutrition.  All of their snacks were super healthy and they learned all about how to read food labels, how sugar is BAD, and more.  It was awesome.

Each week on Wednesday they had a special presenter come in to teach/entertain the kids.  First it was the bird lady, then it was "Daffy Dave", "Jungle Joe", etc.  For 3 consecutive weeks, the special presenter consistently picked MADDIE to be his/her assistant.  For the bird lady, she held out a can of coke for the bird to open. For Daffy Dave, she helped hold his bowling pins while he juggled.  For Jungle Joe, she got to write on his talking puppet board.  Every week, she got picked!  After the 3rd week, Jacob was NOT pleased and said "Maddie, just don't raise your hand next week!"

When I picked Maddie up on the day that Daffy Dave came, she got in the car and then all of a sudden rolled down her window and literally hung out the window screaming "BYE DAFFY DAVE!"  I'm in the driver seat thinking "who in the heck is Daffy Dave?!"  Then Daffy Dave comes over and leans in and says "Bye Maddie! Thank you for helping me today!"  I was beside myself.  A grown, older man is a SERIOUS clown outfit.  He looks to me and says "I just had to choose her to assist me.  She has SUCH stage presence".

He said that.  For REAL.

Clearly they had an amazing time at camp and I'm so happy they sent us pictures each week.  The kids love to look at them and remember their time at camp!

Enjoy :) :)
