Our Birthday Celebration at Home

Since Jacob and Owen's big birthday party isn't until Wednesday, we had a small celebration at home on Friday night. Jacob got to open all of his gifts from Nanny and Papa and was allowed to dive into his own piece of cake. He loved singing "Happy Birthday" and blowing out the candles so we had to do it multiple times (which is why you see a video of us singing "Happy Birthday" with candles on top of a half-eaten piece of cake.) I'm glad we got the practice though because I can only imagine it will help prepare him for the big party on Wednesday!

January 30, 2007

There was a time in the early months of 2007 when I thought that time was standing still. Those sleepless days and nights trying thousands of tricks to calm our newborn. I didn't really know him then and I couldn't imagine what he would become. I couldn't imagine a time 2 years from that day that he was born...what he would look like, what he would sound like, what he would feel like.

And here we are. Time is not standing still. In fact, it is passing by at warp speeds and all I want to do now is slow it down so that I can remember his 2 year old face forever. I know there is more wonderful to come. I know there will be infinitely more kisses to steal, bear hugs to hold, ouchies to mend. But if you saw how incredibly cute he is right now...on this day...you'd want to stop time too.

Happy Birthday Jacob. We love you more than you'll ever know.

January - the month of birthdays

We've had lots of birthdays around here recently. Five of the kids in my Wednesday playgroup have birthdays within 2 weeks of each other so we have been celebrating non stop! Jacob and Owen's big celebration is in a week and then I'm going to have to explain to him that birthday parties aren't an every weekend occasion. And man am I going to miss the cupcakes.

Wii Fun

Grandma and Grandpa bought Jacob and Mark a Wii for their birthdays (undoubtedly, this was more a gift for Mark...at least for now.) We have had a blast playing it so far. Jacob is a big fan of bowling (takes after his Grandma that way!) He especially likes watching Daddy make those big strikes. If only they happened often. HA. Kidding honey.

Here's a clip of Jacob cheering Daddy on.

Shopping has a new meaning

Jaemie and I went "shopping" with Owen and Jacob yesterday at the mall. First, I have to say that those cars you rent from customer service ROCK. Second, Mark said it correctly today: "plan to go to the mall and get 1/5 of what you expect done" (we tried again today and little was accomplished).

Jacob and Owen had more interest in running around stores dancing and their first stop was Abercrombie and Fitch. I don't think the half-dressed 12 year olds that worked there were at all impressed but we thought it was hysterical so I had to capture it on film. I must say that their dance moves are getting better with every step. Don't you think?

Lemos Farm - Round 2

This weekend was our friend Warner's 2nd birthday and his party was at Lemos Farm -- the same place where we did our pumpkin picking last October. Once again, Jacob was in love with the goats and could have fed them all day. I, on the other hand, didn't want to go near the goats after one of them snatched my dixie cup (filled with goat snacks) right out of my hand and then ate the whole cup. When I say he ate the cup, I mean he ATE THE CUP. The paper and everything. I thought about telling one of the workers but my friends assured me that goats eat everything and that my little paper cup wasn't going to make the thing keel over and die. Thank goodness.

Anyway, the bouncy house, train and playground were a hit but Jacob had to leave the pony rides behind. He really, really wanted to go but when he realized that mommy and daddy couldn't walk around the ring with him (he had to ride solo), he burst out in tears. Oh well, maybe he'll ride a ride by himself by the time he's 20.

Two weeks in pictures

I'm ashamed that it's been almost 2 weeks since my last post. Especially since so much has happened in that time. After Christmas, our friend Jim came to visit from Chicago for a few days and then Grandma and Grandpa came to visit from New Mexico. We discovered a place called "Pump it up" that has inflatable bouncy houses, play structures and slides and we can't get enough of it. We love it so much that we decided to plan a joint 2nd birthday party there for Jacob and Owen (of course we are because they are BFFs and are only 4 days apart!)

As for Jacob's development, he's definitely putting 2-3 words together and one of them is almost always a "NO". He took his pants off by himself today (after I chased him around for 10 minutes to get them on) and he somehow managed to gag himself with his fingers in the carseat yesterday as we were driving home from playgroup. Oh wait, I'm sorry. I should have said he managed to GAG himself until he VOMITED all over himself and the carseat while we were driving home yesterday. No apparent reason. I think he just discovered how far down those fingers can really go.

Here's 2 weeks in pictures.

Running between Jimmy and Daddy's legs is fun:

We went to the Aquarium of the Bay with Grandma and Grandpa. There was an underwater tunnel you could walk through and see fish all around you through the glass. Jacob was more interested in the moving walkway than he was the fish. But, he did like trying to touch the stingrays in the water.

We were totally neglectful parents and didn't notice that Jacob had completely wet himself at dinner. So he had to ride home pantless.
