Blueberries anyone?

Jacob continues to crack us up with his words. Before nap today, he said he wanted a pear but we didn't have any pears in the house. We told him we had apples, grapes, bananas, strawberries and blueberries. To which he responded "BOOBIES!" Daddy figured out that he wanted blueberries and continued to egg him on. Of course we had to get it on video. Just another example of us being bad yet highly entertained parents.

Happy Birthday Daddy

Dear Daddy,

I really missed you today on your birthday. All day long mommy kept reminding me that it was your birthday and we'd practice singing Happy Birthday to you. Then I would pretend to blow out the candles. I'm glad I got to sing to you while I was in the bathtub and Mommy was sitting next to me talking to you on the phone. You can probably tell I had been practicing.

Mommy keeps asking me what we should get you for your birthday but apparently I am no help in that department. I would just say "choos choos mommy" or "more cars mommy", but I think Mommy thinks you are too old for that (what does she know anyway?)

When you are gone, I ask about you all day long. When Mommy comes to get me out of the crib in the morning and after my nap, I always say "Daddy, Daddy". Mommy tells me that you are at work and then she says that you'll be home soon. I really wish I knew what soon meant.

At playgroup this morning I was showing off for my friends. Mommy asked me "Who's the man?" and I answered "I'm the man!" and then I started yelling "Daddy! Daddy!" (because you are the one who taught me to be cool like that)

Then, we went to Baja Fresh tonight for dinner (Mommy was craving tacos AGAIN) and I missed being there with you too. I kept saying "Daddy home...Daddy home?" Mommy told me you were flying on the airplane tomorrow and would be back soon. There's that word again...

Anyway, I miss you Daddy and can't wait to sing Happy Birthday to you in person. We love you and hope you come home very soon (whatever that means.)

I looovveeeeeee YOU!
Jacob

Jacob funnies

I just had to write a quick note tonight to remind myself (and all 3 of you that read this blog) of how cute Jacob is.

Earlier in the evening we were playing with his cars in his playroom. Jacob has a LOT of cars my friends. Enough to fill 3 of those buckets in his toy organizer. I was making him a snack and when I came back into the playroom, all of the cars were strategically placed on the floor side by side but they were upside down/turned over. I said "Jacob, why are all of your cars upside down?" He looked at me with this serious face and said "Cars night night mommy". And he was right, the cars did all look like they were sleeping. I just grabbed that kid and kissed him.

Later, I was making him dinner and I let him go into the freezer with me to pick out his vegetable for the evening. He saw the bag of peas and said "peas mommy!! PEAS!!!!!". So, I made him the peas while he somewhat impatiently watched me (the whole time yelling "peas mommy!") We sat down and with each HUGE mouthful of peas he chomped down on them saying "mmmmm!!!!" This is the same kid that begs for broccoli in front of the refrigerator. What did we do to be so blessed with a kid that loves veggies?

Finally, before his bath, he always sits on the potty and tries to go to the bathroom before getting in the water. Lately, he's been stalling his bath and sitting on the potty for a LONG period of time. I kept asking him "Jacob, are you done? Time to get in the bath". His response tonight was "No mommy. Poo poo." I thought to myself "there's absolutely no way he's going to go poo on that potty." Sure enough, I saw the kid strain so much that a little tiny poop came out. And as soon as that happened, he was satisfied and jumped right in the bath. Okay, maybe that was TMI, but it shocked the heck out of me. I'm not sure if I'm even ready for that step yet.

Two years old. These are some funny times.

bad blogger, bad blogger, bad blogger!

Excuses for me not blogging:
1) A bad case of the flu practically took me out of the real world for a whole week
2) Mark has been traveling so much that I am flying solo as housekeeper, mother and online marketing consultant (and flu recipient)
3) We have not done anything fun lately to write about!

The biggest news here is that it is finally confirmed that we are moving to Dallas. When I think about the road ahead (selling this house, packing this house, buying new house, unpacking new house) I have a slight panic attack so I try to deny that it is happening at all most of the time. I don't think it's going to feel real until we are on that plane. Jacob just turned 2 and in 2 years he will have lived in Chicago, San Francisco and Dallas. Many people don't have the chance to live in such 3 great cities! Unfortunately, he will lack any memory of all of this moving (or maybe I should say fortunately?)

My goal is to keep the updates coming as we embark on this new journey. If for any other reason than to document to a therapist years from now why I scream like a baby when I see a u-haul truck. Hey -- it's bound to happen someday.

More to come...
