And in a blink, our baby girl is 7 years old. How is this even possible?!?! She is still our hard working, non-dress wearing, sports girl! She is loving second grade and playing soccer this season. A friend also told us about a basketball clinic with Marion Jones (ex WNBA player and ex olympian) that she's gone to a couple of times. Basketball starts in November and these clinics are great for her ball handling and conditioning. She's by far the youngest participant and works hard to keep up. In the first pic below, Coach Marion had the girls run and Maddie was falling behind -- so she grabbed her hand and ran with her to encourage her not to stop! It's so neat seeing someone so accomplished give back to young athletes like Maddie. She also runs a mean clinic. She is serious about basketball and really makes the girls work hard. Maddie's a little scared each time she goes, but she likes it! (except for the running....she hates the running. ha)
Maddie's birthday fell on a Friday so she got to celebrate it at school. We made cupcakes on Thursday night and she was able to hand out cupcakes to both second grade classes and they sang to her! She decided to have her party after school at the Westlake Athletic Community Center. It's a beautiful facility with a huge gymnasium. The kids played dodge ball and basketball and they all had a great time.
I'm constantly impressed by her work ethic and her kind heart. She is my little helper and never complains when I ask her to help me do things. She is the BEST big sister to Dex and constantly wants to play with and love on him. She prefers to be hanging out with us versus watching TV or playing with electronics and I am so thankful for that. She still does everything in her power to keep up with Jacob ALL. THE. TIME. I just love this little girl and can't believe she's SEVEN!
